Breast Augmentation (Mammaplasty)
Your breast augmentation is performed in our private Outpatient Ambulatory Surgical Facility under general anesthesia. The breasts are carefully marked to indicate where incisions are to be made. One of the techniques most frequently used is an incision made in the breast fold or around the lower portion of the areola (the dark pink area circling the nipple). Another location frequently used is in the armpit as well as the navel. (Fig. A). Breast tissue is raised to create a pocket either under the breast tissue (Fig. B) or beneath the chest wall muscle. (Fig. C). An implant is inserted into the pocket.
Breast Lift (Mastopex)
Dr. Gordon will discuss the variety of surgical procedures, depending upon what changes are desired. Prior to surgery, pre-medication to relax the patient is administered and breasts are carefully marked to indicate where the incisions are to be made.
Breast Reduction (Mammaplasty)
Dr. Gordon specializes in a limited scar breast reduction whereby the only scars are around the nipple and straight down to the fold. The nipple, areola (dark pink area circling the nipple) and tissue below are relocated but not detached. Small sutures are used to close the incisions. This technique is very popular in Europe and South America. For more extensive reductions a third incision underneath the breast in the fold will be necessary. A breast reduction can take four hours depending on the extent of the surgery.
